The Sugar River Raiders struck first against the Baraboo Thunderbirds on Thursday but could not make the early advantage hold, falling 3-2 in a tightly contested nonconference match.
Kaleb Weber put Sugar River in front at 19:04 of the first half, finishing a chance created by Drew Brueggemann to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The advantage lasted until the closing minutes of the half. Baraboo pulled even at 35:31 when Sugar River conceded an own goal, sending the teams into halftime tied 1-1.
The Thunderbirds then took their first lead less than four minutes into the second half, scoring off a corner at 43:41. Baraboo added another goal at 65:46 to put Sugar River in a 3-1 hole.
