Swiss Church Kilby Dinner Express Returns During Oktoberfest

The Swiss Church in New Glarus will once again celebrate its annual Kilby tradition Saturday, Sept. 26, with Kilby Express take-out dinners and a Taste of Kilby food stand. This year’s event will coincide with New Glarus Oktoberfest, which runs Sept. 24-27 downtown.

That means the Kilby festivities will take place on the busiest day of the four-day Oktoberfest weekend, adding another distinctly Swiss food tradition to a weekend already filled with music, food and activities throughout downtown New Glarus.

The Taste of Kilby stand will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Fifth Avenue side of the church lawn. The featured “Walking Swiss Meatballs” include a dollop of Swiss mashed potatoes and two veal meatballs. Bottled water will also be available for purchase.

The Kilby Express take-out dinner will include Swiss meatballs, Swiss mashed potatoes, Swiss green beans, cheese, Swiss bread and butter. Dessert specialties will include Braetzli, pear bread, Zueribieter and pie.
