New Glarus sits at the doorstep of the Driftless Region, where the roads do not always follow straight lines because the land does not ask them to. They bend around hills, slip through valleys, climb past farmsteads and open suddenly into views that make even a short errand feel like a Sunday drive.

The beauty of the area is not limited to famous overlooks or state parks. Much of it is found on ordinary county roads, where the signs point to places like Blanchardville, Argyle, Monticello, Brodhead, Albany and Monroe, and the reward is the drive itself.
