Tree Crashes Through a New Glarus Home

A large tree crashed through the roof of Imelda Ellefson-Majeski’s Valle Tell Drive home Friday night, crashing into a living room where her grandchildren had been playing only hours earlier. What followed was a long night of neighbors, family members and emergency responders working together.

Imelda Ellefson-Majeski had turned off her bedroom light around 10:30 p.m. Friday and was beginning to fall asleep when the sound of an explosion shook her New Glarus home.

For a moment, she wondered whether someone had set off a large firework. Then her neighbors appeared at her front door.

Together, they walked from the entryway into the home’s open living area. Two enormous tree branches had punched through the roof.

“There were two big, huge branches impaled in the house,” Ellefson-Majeski recalled during an interview Saturday, while only operating on an hour of sleep.
