Village Board Approves Servers, Voting Machines and Carport

A lengthy New Glarus Village Board meeting brought decisions on technology purchases, roadwork and emergency services, while a spirited discussion about downtown benches sent staff back to explore a distinctly local design before any order is placed.

Village Board Approves Servers, Voting Machines and Carport

The New Glarus Village Board approved nearly $63,000 in computer server replacements, agreed to buy new voting equipment outright and authorized a police carport during its Wednesday, Oct. 21, meeting. Trustees also advanced engineering work on Eleventh Avenue and the Village Hall renovation.

The decisions came alongside the board’s second and final workshop on the proposed 2027 village budget. No final budget vote was taken; a public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m., with final action expected at the second meeting in November.

Village Administrator Kelsey Jenson told trustees that the village manages more than $10.5 million across its various funds. The workshop focused on accounts outside the property tax levy, including utilities, tax incremental districts and cemetery operations.

Jenson described the utility funds as healthy but cautioned that apparent operating surpluses do not reflect all debt principal and interest payments. She also discussed future capital needs, including major water infrastructure work planned for 2028 and more systematic planning for electric utility vehicle replacements.
