Village Board Reviews Budget, Approves Fees

The Village of New Glarus held its annual budget public hearing Wednesday, Nov. 4, with only two people in the audience and no public comments on the proposed 2027 budget or any other matter before the Village Board.

Village Administrator Kelsey Jenson delivered an extensive presentation explaining the village's finances, proposed expenditures, tax levy, capital improvements and utility operations. The board also approved several measures affecting village services and infrastructure.

The proposed budget calls for approximately $11.5 million in spending across all village funds, a decrease of about 24% from 2026, largely reflecting the completion of the new public library project.

The village's primary operating budget, known as the General Fund, would increase by approximately 1% to $2.01 million.

Although the proposed property tax levy is increasing by approximately 7%, Jenson said the village's tax rate is expected to remain virtually unchanged, moving from $6.619 to $6.620 per $1,000 of assessed value.
