Ways You Can Contribute to New Glarus 360

New Glarus 360 is building a broader online New Glarus newspaper experience by inviting community voices to contribute sports, school, church, opinion, feature and local life stories.

Ways You Can Contribute to New Glarus 360

One of the goals of community journalism is to make room for more people to help tell the story of a place. That can mean writing a full article, sending in a short community update, sharing photos with captions, or contributing a one-time column about a subject you know well. New Glarus 360 is always interested in hearing from people who care about this community and want to help inform, connect and reflect it.

Anyone interested in contributing can reach out by email at editor@newglarus360.com. That includes people with past writing experience, people who have never written for publication before, local organizations with news to share, students, photographers, volunteers and residents who simply have a story idea worth exploring. Not every contribution has to be a major feature. Sometimes a good community story starts with a short note, a few facts and a willingness to help.

Sports Reporting

Local sports are some of the most talked-about and best-loved stories in any community. New Glarus 360 welcomes game recaps, athlete profiles, coach interviews, previews, feature stories and observations from people who follow local teams closely. This can include youth sports, middle school, high school, club sports and adult recreation.

Opinion and Guest Columns

Community opinion has a place, too. Residents with a thoughtful point of view on local issues, civic life, schools, community values or everyday life in New Glarus may be interested in writing a guest column or opinion piece. These articles should be clear, fair and grounded in the writer’s own perspective.

Church News and Information

Churches remain an important part of community life, and there are many ways to cover that. This could include updates on special services, concerts, community meals, mission work, anniversaries, youth activities, leadership changes, holiday events or other items of interest to the broader public.

Organizational News

Many local groups are doing meaningful work, but not all of it gets documented. New Glarus 360 welcomes submissions from clubs, nonprofits, civic organizations, service groups, committees and community groups that want to share news, milestones, awards, fundraisers, leadership updates or upcoming events.

Human Interest and Lifestyle

Some of the best community stories are not about government meetings or breaking news at all. They are about people. Human interest and lifestyle stories can focus on local traditions, hobbies, families, milestones, personal journeys, seasonal routines, creative work, health, home life or the small details that make this area distinctive.

School News

There is always more happening in and around the schools than one outlet can capture alone. School news might include student achievements, classroom projects, club activities, concerts, theater, academic programs, alumni updates, teacher features, school traditions and other stories that help people stay connected to local education.

Community Events Coverage

Events are a major part of life in New Glarus, and coverage can take many forms. Writers may want to preview an upcoming event, attend and report on what happened, or write a follow-up feature about turnout, highlights and community response. Festivals, fundraisers, open houses, meetings, library programs, park events and seasonal celebrations all fit here.

Local History and Nostalgia

New Glarus has a rich history, and many residents have stories, memories and old photographs that deserve a wider audience. Articles in this category might look back at former businesses, local landmarks, school memories, family farms, village traditions, major moments in community history or stories passed from one generation to the next.

Arts and Culture

Not every community story fits neatly into hard news. Arts and culture coverage can include music performances, art shows, exhibits, theater productions, local authors, film screenings, dance, folk traditions and the cultural life that gives a place its character.

Religion and Faith

New Glarus 360 encourages local churches and other faith communities to contribute news and information about the role they play in village life. That may include special services, holiday events, concerts, youth activities, outreach efforts, anniversaries, leadership updates, mission work, community meals or other items of broader local interest.

Agriculture and Rural Life

This region is closely tied to the land, and stories about agriculture and rural life are an important part of the local picture. That might include profiles of farm families, seasonal work, conservation efforts, rural traditions, ag education, livestock stories, crop updates or features on people connected to farming and country life.

Volunteer and Nonprofit Coverage

Many people quietly give their time to make New Glarus stronger. New Glarus 360 would welcome stories about volunteer efforts, community projects, charity work, donation drives, local causes and the people who keep these efforts going behind the scenes.

Photo Essays

Not every contributor needs to be a traditional writer. Sometimes a series of strong images with short captions can tell a story just as effectively. Photo essays could document community events, changing seasons, local landmarks, work on the farm, a day in the life of a business or a slice of everyday life in New Glarus.

Student Voices

Students can bring a perspective that adults may miss. This category could include essays, observations, school-life reflections, event coverage, club updates, arts coverage or other stories written from a student point of view. It is a good way to help younger writers build confidence while also broadening the community conversation.

Outdoor and Recreation Writing

New Glarus and the surrounding area offer no shortage of outdoor experiences. Writers may want to cover hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, skiing, wildlife watching, camping, park improvements, trail news or the ways local residents make use of the outdoors throughout the year.

Food and Dining

Food is part of community identity, too. Stories in this category could include restaurant features, local cooking traditions, church suppers, fish fries, seasonal menu changes, community meals, specialty producers, bakers, market vendors or the people and traditions behind favorite local foods.

Letters to the Editor

Some people may not want to write a full guest column but still have something worth saying. A letter from the community can be shorter, more direct and focused on a single issue, event or response. These pieces can help broaden civic discussion while giving readers another way to participate.

New Glarus 360 is open to many kinds of contributors. Some may write once. Others may contribute occasionally when they have news to share. A few may become regular voices. The important thing is not whether someone sees themselves as a journalist. The important thing is whether they have something useful, interesting or meaningful to share with the community.
