World Euchre Championship Deals New Glarus a Winning Hand
What began as a fun, tongue-in-cheek way to raise money to purchase some land near Candy Cane Park has grown into a sold-out annual event that raises funds for New Glarus and has a national reach.
The World Euchre Championship began as a marketing gimmick hoping to attract card players to a non-profit card game.
When New Glarus Cares held the first tournament in 2023, the organization was barely 6 months old and was looking for clever ways to raise money to preserve green space behind Shepherd of the Hills Church, adjacent to Candy Cane Park.
As a small town, New Glarus and its residents and businesses are often asked to support school programs, community projects, youth activities, civic causes and nonprofit efforts. New Glarus Cares wanted to build something different: a fundraiser that could bring money into the community from outside it.
The result was the World Euchre Championship.
