Artist Shapes Wood, Fabric Into One-of-a-Kind Work
New Glarus Art in the Park artist Theresa Schultz of T’s Workshop creates live-edge wood furniture, lamps, jewelry, wall art and upcycled clothing, guided by natural grain, handwork and a self-taught curiosity that keeps her work constantly evolving.
For Theresa Schultz, art often begins with something someone else might overlook.
A branch along the road. A weathered piece of wood. A leftover slab from a mill. A denim jacket waiting for a second life.
From her home studio and workshop, Schultz, the artist behind T’s Workshop, turns those materials into live-edge tables, lamps, jewelry, wall art, sculptural wood pieces and, more recently, upcycled clothing with hand embroidery and natural dye work.
Schultz will bring her work to New Glarus this summer for the 64th Annual New Glarus Art in the Park, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at New Glarus Village Park. It will be her second year participating in the juried fine art event.
Schultz’s path into woodworking began with practicality.
