– UPDATE: Fire is now under control and is being cleaned up by the Belleville and New Glarus fire departments. (8:48 a.m.)
Firefighters from multiple departments responded Saturday morning to W4680 County Highway W east of New Glarus after an intentionally set barn burn grew larger than expected.
According to emergency radio traffic, the structure involved was a collapsed barn that property owners had planned to burn. Dispatchers were initially advised the fire was under control but later received reports that it had become "out of control," leading to a response from the Belleville Fire Department and mutual aid resources.
Dispatchers subsequently advised responding crews that the barn had already collapsed and that the fire was burning more than originally intended. The reporting party estimated the structure at approximately 60 feet by 120 feet and located behind the residence, away from the roadway.
