Belleville Declares Emergency After Tornado Damages Homes

A tornado struck the northeast side of Belleville Wednesday evening, damaging multiple homes, displacing residents and prompting a local emergency declaration as firefighters from New Glarus and neighboring communities responded to assist.

BELLEVILLE, Wis. — Village officials have declared a local emergency after a tornado struck the northeast side of Belleville on Wednesday evening, causing significant damage to homes and property while prompting a large response from local and regional emergency agencies.

During a late Wednesday evening press briefing, Belleville officials confirmed the storm damage was caused by a tornado that moved through the community around 7:15 p.m. The affected area was concentrated on the northeast side of the village near the Town of Montrose.

Officials reported no injuries despite what they described as significant property damage.

According to emergency radio traffic and information provided during the press briefing, multiple homes sustained damage, including houses with portions of their roofs torn away. Responders arriving in the Wall Street area reported extensive damage to numerous structures and described heavy damage throughout portions of the neighborhood.
