New Glarus Extends Power Agreement Through 2073
The New Glarus Village Board approved an 18-year extension of its wholesale power agreement, authorized up to $76,000 for a used utility truck and updated local ordinances covering electric scooters, vaping devices and unregistered vehicles.
The New Glarus Village Board approved a long-term extension of the village electric utility’s power supply agreement with WPPI Energy during its regular meeting Wednesday, Aug. 5.
The agreement extends New Glarus’ current contract with the member-owned wholesale power supplier from Dec. 31, 2055, through Dec. 31, 2073. The board also authorized the possible purchase of a used digger derrick utility truck and approved three updates to the village’s municipal code.
WPPI President and CEO Mike Peters presented the contract proposal and described the extension as necessary for the organization to finance new generation, transmission investments and other long-term power purchases on favorable terms.
New Glarus has been a member-owner of WPPI Energy since 2005. The organization serves 51 locally owned electric utilities, including 41 in Wisconsin, and provides wholesale electricity, utility services, purchasing programs, technical support and legislative advocacy.
