MONROE, Wis. — The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team ran into a talented Edgewood squad Tuesday night, falling 123-44, but the CheeseKnights continued to produce encouraging individual performances, faster times and a pair of event victories.

Lauren Zentner captured the 50-meter freestyle for Monroe-New Glarus, touching the wall in 29.50 seconds. Hadleigh Shunk added another MNG victory in the 100 backstroke, winning in 1 minute, 9.31 seconds. Her winning backstroke time was also faster than the time she swam at last year’s conference meet.

Shunk also turned in one of the closest races of the night in the 200 individual medley. She finished second in 2:39.29, just 0.58 seconds behind Edgewood's Maggie Mulligan. The performance took another second off Shunk's time from the Lodi Invitational.

The CheeseKnights also opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. Shunk, Lauryn Arnett, Zentner and Kennedy Sysko combined for a time of 2:21.23.
