It has been a very busy week around New Glarus with the spring election, high school sports and plenty happening around the community. We’ve been busy trying to keep up with it all, and we appreciate everyone who has been following along, sending tips and checking in throughout the week.
A quick heads-up for Saturday: it’s National Pet Day, and we’d love to make it a little fun for the community. If you live in New Glarus or are a former New Glarus area resident, send us a selfie or a photo of yourself with your pet, along with your name and your pet’s name. We’d love to share them with everyone on Saturday. Email them to editor@newglarus360.com or send them by direct message to New Glarus 360 on Facebook.
What We’re Working On
There was a small structure fire overnight on County Highway CC near Tunnel Road in the Town of Exeter, and we will be following up on any new details or developments there.
We’re following up on the Village of New Glarus public hearing about road and sidewalk work on 11th Avenue and will have more as that discussion continues to develop.
The New Glarus High School honor roll should be arriving any day now, and as soon as we receive it, we’ll be sure to share it with you.
Spring sports season is moving fast, and from baseball and softball to track and field and golf, there is plenty of local sports news headed your way.
It is also National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, and we hope to highlight the people who answer the phone when others are facing some of their worst moments and dial 911.
We’re working on profiles of two local businesses: The Blanc Chalet and New Glarus’ Hometown Pharmacy.
We’re also digging into the story of brick cheese and its deep roots in Green County.
Another story in the works looks back at Eric the Monkey’s escape in New Glarus, a tale that still manages to charm people and haunt the community’s memory at the same time.
The Canter Inn appears to have some interesting news brewing, and we hope to have more to share on that before long.
Several local businesses are taking part in the 2026 Green County Best Burger Contest, organized by the Green County Beef Producers, and we plan to spotlight the local burger entries.
We’re also preparing an update on construction progress tied to the new Green County Jail and Law Enforcement Center.
There are plans for a new crosswalk light on Highway 69 where the Sugar River Trail crosses the highway, and we’ll have more on that as details come together.

What You May Have Missed

Something We Noticed
I’ll admit it: I questioned the cost of the new New Glarus Community Sports Complex. It was a big investment, and when a community spends that kind of money, it ought to be on something done well and built to last. From what I’ve seen so far, the district appears to have done that.
Until Tuesday’s first home track meet for the Glarner Knights, most people had only seen the complex from the outside looking in, from the stands, the road, the sidelines or through someone’s lens. As a photographer, I know perspective matters. This week, with photographers on the infield for the first time, small details came into focus, and in a project like this, details can make all the difference.
From the fencing and stonework to the crisp track markings, careful edge work, overall finish and more, the complex simply looks beautiful. A lot of people deserve credit for that, including those who planned, built and carried the project through, including the school board and administration. And on a related note, the New Glarus track and field coaches and athletic director deserve praise as well for how well the new program has come together. Yes, the price tag raised eyebrows, but so far, those dollars seem well spent.
