WATERLOO, Wis. — New Glarus gave first-place Waterloo an early jolt Tuesday night, scoring the first five points of the match before the Pirates recovered and handed the Glarner Knights a 25-20, 25-17, 25-18 Capitol South loss.
The opening run gave New Glarus immediate momentum against a Waterloo team that entered the night near the top of the conference standings. The Pirates answered, however, drawing even at 6-6 before gradually taking control of the first set and closing it out 25-20.
New Glarus had a tougher time finding the same rhythm in the second set. Waterloo jumped ahead 5-1, and six service errors by the Glarner girls made it difficult to string together sustained runs. The Pirates also scored four aces on the way to a 25-17 win.
