County Board Takes Aim at Data Centers, Short-Term Rentals
Green County supervisors will consider a 12-month data center moratorium and sweeping new rules for short-term rentals when they meet Tuesday, July 14, in Monroe, along with a K-9 donation, highway purchase and public health resolution.
MONROE, Wis. — Green County supervisors will consider temporarily blocking data center development and imposing new countywide requirements on short-term rentals during a meeting Tuesday that includes two proposals with potentially broad effects on property owners and rural communities.
The Green County Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the County Board Room at the Green County Historic Courthouse, 1016 16th Ave. in Monroe.
The most consequential item may be a proposed 12-month moratorium on applications and county approvals for data centers. The pause would give county officials time to study the facilities and establish zoning and regulatory standards before any projects could move forward.
The board will also consider an extensive ordinance requiring conditional use permits for rentals offered for fewer than 30 consecutive days, including properties marketed through services such as Airbnb and Vrbo.
