More Details Emerge in Sugar River Attempted Homicide Case
A newly filed criminal complaint alleges the victim lost consciousness, stopped breathing and required CPR after being held in a chokehold on the Sugar River. Witnesses described efforts to force the suspect to release him.
ALBANY, Wis. — Newly filed court documents provide additional details about the Sugar River assault that led prosecutors to charge a 19-year-old Janesville man with attempted first-degree intentional homicide following a tubing trip near Albany on May 30.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Green County Circuit Court, investigators allege Brett P. Lux placed another man in a chokehold, held him underwater multiple times and continued applying pressure even after the victim became unresponsive.
The complaint was filed after Lux was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, strangulation and suffocation, and multiple felony bail jumping counts. Authorities previously announced the arrest Wednesday.
According to investigators, the victim told deputies he joined a tubing trip with approximately 20 people on the Sugar River after being invited through a group chat. The group met at Sweet Minihaha Campground before entering the river around 1 p.m. and consuming alcohol throughout the afternoon.
