New Glarus Brewing Expansion Hits One-Year Mark
One year after groundbreaking, New Glarus Brewing Company’s major Hilltop expansion is moving from site work to visible construction, with new brewing space, visitor amenities and a larger long-term footprint in the village.
One year into construction, New Glarus Brewing Company’s ambitious Hilltop expansion is taking shape—transforming from blueprint to a striking new chapter in the brewery’s storied legacy. Led by project manager and architect Katherine May, a New Glarus High School graduate and the daughter of brewery founders Dan and Deb Carey, the project marks a new chapter for Wisconsin’s most beloved brewery.
New Glarus Brewing Company is undergoing a $55 million, 65,000-square-foot expansion project to its Hilltop facility, which began in October 2024 and is expected to be completed early 2027. Plans include a four-story addition with a new brewing area that will double production capacity, a distillery, a larger tasting room, a new parking lot, and a beer garden. The existing Hilltop facility will remain closed to the public during construction, while the original Riverside brewery continues to serve as the temporary tasting room at least until the Hilltop construction has finished.
