BROOKLYN, Wis. — New Glarus Fire responded Tuesday morning as numerous departments battled a house fire at 5426 County Highway A in the Town of Oregon.

The incident initially was dispatched as an electrical problem following a reported lightning strike. Scanner traffic later indicated the house had caught fire, prompting Oregon Fire to upgrade the call to a structure fire and request additional mutual aid.

An arriving Oregon Fire officer reported fire in the roof and heavy smoke throughout the roof area, leading to a full structure-fire response involving several neighboring departments.

Firefighters worked to locate and extinguish fire that had spread into concealed areas of the approximately 3,000-square-foot home. Crews entered the house to pull ceilings and expose fire in the attic and eaves while other firefighters worked from the exterior.
