New Glarus Depot and Parking Lot to Receive Historic Upgrades
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources plans a new cedar shingle roof for the historic depot and a complete reconstruction of the adjacent parking lot as part of ongoing preservation efforts.
Visitors to New Glarus will soon see important improvements to one of the village’s most recognizable historic landmarks. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is planning upgrades to the former railroad depot, including a historically accurate cedar shingle roof and improvements to the adjacent parking lot.
The work is intended to preserve the character of the depot while improving the experience for visitors who use the building and nearby Sugar River State Trail facilities.
Melissa Burns, park manager for New Glarus Woods State Park and Sugar River State Trail, said the DNR has been coordinating closely with the Wisconsin Historical Society as plans move forward.
