HARTFORD, Wis. — The New Glarus Glarner Knights closed out a demanding two-day, 36-hole tournament Saturday by posting an official team score of 699 and finishing 42nd at the 2026 Hartford Invitational high school boys golf tournament. After opening with a 350 on Friday, New Glarus came back with a 349 on Day 2.

That one-shot improvement may not sound dramatic on paper, but in a long early-season tournament loaded with larger programs, it gave the Glarner Knights a solid step forward in their first varsity meet of the year.

Isaac Ingwell led New Glarus across the two days with a 163 total, finishing 11-over-par. After carding an 80 on Friday at Hartford Golf Club, he followed it with an 83 on Saturday at Washington County Golf Course to cap the best tournament total for the Knights.

Kofi Belknap and Kellen Martinson each finished at 180 overall. Belknap rebounded from Friday with an 86 on Saturday after opening with a 94, while Martinson followed his first-day 87 with a 93 in the final round.

Nick Sonntag also gave New Glarus an important two-day score, finishing at 177 overall after rounds of 90 and 87. Braden Goodness rounded out the Glarner Knights lineup at 196.

Official team results shared with New Glarus 360 showed New Glarus finishing one shot behind Appleton North at 692 and one shot ahead of Whitefish Bay at 700. Madison Memorial followed at 705.

For a New Glarus team still breaking in new varsity golfers, the weekend was as much about toughness and growth as it was about the leaderboard. Head coach Jonathan Goodness said the experience should pay off as the season moves ahead.

“I was really proud of how our guys played,” Goodness said. “This was our first varsity meet and it was a 36 hole 2-day tournament. We have four new guys to the varsity team.”

Goodness said shooting a 699 was “a great start” and praised the group for handling the grind of a six-hour round Friday and a five-and-a-half-hour round Saturday.

“It shows their resilience and their ability to maintain focus,” Goodness said. “I expect them to continue to improve as the season progresses and I know this is only our floor with nothing but up from here.”

For New Glarus, that may be the biggest takeaway from the opening weekend. The Glarner Knights did not just survive a long two-day test. They got better on Day 2, stayed competitive deep into the field and gave themselves a strong foundation to build on the rest of the season.
