New Glarus Fire Department crews responded Tuesday morning to a reported barn fire at W4956 County Highway W, with Monticello, Belleville and Monroe Fire Departments dispatched as automatic aid and Sugar River EMS also responding.

According to Green County radio traffic, a Sugar River officer arriving at the property initially reported nothing showing before locating smoke coming from the rear of a barn farther back on the property. The officer advised incoming crews that the building was reached by a narrow driveway.

Radio traffic then described two appliances smoking near the rear of the barn. The property owner had used two fire extinguishers, and responders moved the appliances away from the building. Embers were also reported near the building foundation.
