New Glarus Lands No. 1 Seed in Division 5 Football Bracket

The Glarner Knights will open the WIAA postseason at home against Bloomer, but the newly released bracket offers several intriguing paths, familiar opponents and a possible collision course involving the only team to beat New Glarus.

New Glarus Lands No. 1 Seed in Division 5 Football Bracket

New Glarus will enter the WIAA football playoffs in a position it has not occupied all season: at the top of its bracket.

The Glarner Knights received the No. 1 seed in their eight-team Division 5 grouping and will host No. 8 Bloomer at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at The Bank of New Glarus Field. The winner advances to face either No. 4 Chilton or No. 5 Peshtigo in Level 2.

The draw gives New Glarus a clear reward for an 8-1 regular season that ended with a 35-7 win over Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg on Friday. The Knights' only loss came Sept. 11, when defending state champion Darlington pulled away for a 41-10 victory in New Glarus.

As the No. 1 seed, if New Glarus can continue to win, it could have as many as three home playoff games at The Bank of New Glarus Field. The Glarner Knights host Bloomer in Level 1, and if they keep winning, they would also be in line to host Level 2 and the sectional championship before the tournament moves to a neutral site for the state semifinals.
