New Glarus Nears Completion of New Water Reservoir
The 300,000-gallon tank near County Highway W adds storage capacity, improves fire protection and prepares the village for future growth.
The long-planned water reservoir project on the east side of the village is nearing completion, marking a major step in strengthening New Glarus’ water infrastructure and preparing for future growth. The 300,000-gallon concrete tank, located near County Highway W, was put into service along with a new connecting water main in late May. Work continues on final details, including installation of monitoring and control equipment scheduled for early September.
Construction of the reservoir began later in 2024 than originally planned, which pushed some work, including the painting of the structure, into spring 2025 to ensure warmer conditions for proper application. Despite the delay, the project is now nearly complete and already providing additional storage capacity.
The new reservoir addresses a long-recognized shortfall in the village’s water system.
