New Glarus Residents Should Prepare for Tornado Season
With Wisconsin already seeing an active start to tornado season, New Glarus residents are urged to review warning systems, shelter plans and emergency alerts before the next severe storm.
Wisconsin’s tornado season has arrived early and loudly, making now a good time for New Glarus residents to review how they would respond if a warning were issued.
The state averages about 23 tornadoes a year, according to ReadyWisconsin and the National Weather Service, but reports in mid-to-late April showed Wisconsin already near or above that number for 2026.
For New Glarus, the issue is not just whether residents know tornado safety rules. It is whether they know how those rules apply here, in a village surrounded by rolling hills, rural roads, farms, outdoor recreation areas, sports fields, campgrounds and neighborhoods where people may not always be near a basement or able to hear an outdoor siren.
