PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The first season of New Glarus track and field's return as a standalone program continued to gain momentum Tuesday as the Glarner Knights turned in a strong performance at the WIAA Division 2 Regional in Platteville, highlighted by a regional championship from Brent Weeden and a number of athletes advancing to Friday's sectional meet in McFarland.

The regional marked another milestone for a New Glarus program that returned this spring for the first time since 1990 under head coach Rychia Bosman.

Weeden delivered the day's top result for the Knights, winning the boys shot put with a personal-best throw of 62 feet, 5.5 inches. The mark was nearly eight feet farther than runner-up Waylon Yoder of Monroe and established Weeden as one of the area's top contenders heading into sectionals.
