New Glarus Veteran-Owned Farm Stay Receives State Business Grant

A New Glarus business owned by a military veteran has been selected to receive technology assistance through a statewide program designed to help veteran entrepreneurs grow and manage their operations more effectively.

Acres Aweigh Farm Stay, owned by Navy veteran Judy Farrell, was one of 20 veteran-owned businesses across Wisconsin chosen to receive a laptop loaded with QuickBooks accounting software through a partnership between the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) and the Wisconsin Women’s Business Initiative Corporation (WWBIC).

The award was announced June 18 as part of a broader initiative that provided business resources to 29 veteran-owned companies statewide. In addition to the 20 laptop recipients, nine veteran-owned businesses received $5,000 equity injections through a pitch competition.

The program is part of a continuing effort by WDVA and WWBIC to support veterans transitioning from military service into entrepreneurship. WWBIC, a statewide nonprofit organization headquartered in Milwaukee, provides business education, training, coaching and access to capital for small business owners. The organization has worked with thousands of entrepreneurs across Wisconsin, including veterans, women and underserved business owners.
