MAZOMANIE, Wis. — The New Glarus Glarner Knights girls volleyball team saved one of its best performances of the season for Saturday, Oct. 17, winning all four matches to capture the Wisconsin Heights Invitational championship.
The Glarner Knights defeated Reedsburg, Wisconsin Heights, Turner and Coulee Region Christian to finish the five-team tournament undefeated, winning eight sets while dropping just one.
Perhaps the sweetest victory came against tournament host Wisconsin Heights, which had swept New Glarus 3-0 earlier in the week. This time, the Glarner girls turned the tables, defeating the Vanguards in straight sets, 25-16 and 25-23.
The tournament championship continued an impressive late-season stretch for New Glarus, which had also defeated Highway 69 rival Belleville in a dramatic five-set match earlier in the week. The Knights entered Saturday with considerable momentum and left Mazomanie with four more victories and a championship to show for it.
