New Glarus-area voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3, for a general election that includes statewide constitutional offices, Congress, two state legislative races, three Green County offices and three proposed amendments to the Wisconsin Constitution. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
For local voters, some of the most closely watched contests are likely to be for State Senate District 17 and Assembly District 50. Republican Sen. Howard Marklein faces Democratic Rep. Jenna Jacobson for the Senate seat, while Republican Jon Aleckson and Democrat Bill Oemichen are seeking the open Assembly seat Jacobson is leaving.
The Assembly contest has an especially direct New Glarus connection. Oemichen is a longtime Town of New Glarus resident and president of the New Glarus School Board. Jacobson currently represents Assembly District 50, while Marklein is the incumbent senator in District 17.
Voters will also choose Wisconsin’s next governor and lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and state treasurer, along with Green County coroner and clerk of circuit court. Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable is running unopposed. Three statewide constitutional amendments will appear at the bottom of the ballot.
