VERONA, Wis. — Epic Systems is building a sixth campus at its Verona headquarters, adding room for thousands of workspaces and raising questions about future housing demand in New Glarus, Belleville and the communities between them. City planning records show five approved office buildings and a dining facility in the development, with space identified for another potential office building.
The expansion, called “Other Worlds,” follows more than two decades of construction by one of the region’s largest employers. Its significance extends beyond the unusual buildings: additional workers, if hired, would need places to live and would contribute to demand for roads, schools, shops and services throughout the area.
Epic, founded in 1979 and headquartered in Verona since 2003, develops electronic health record software used by hospitals, clinics and other health care organizations. Its systems help providers manage patient charts, appointments and care, while its MyChart software lets patients view test results, communicate with care teams and manage visits. Epic says more than 325 million patients have a current electronic record in its software.
