Riders celebrated the opening of new mountain bike trails at New Glarus Woods State Park on Saturday, Oct. 24, with doughnuts and a group ride. The event was hosted by Capital Off Road Pathfinders (CORP Trails) and the Friends of New Glarus Woods State Park.

According to CORP Trails, another 1.8 miles of rolling singletrack opened, bringing the rideable trail network to 2.8 miles. The organization said it was working toward four miles by the end of the season and seven miles when the system is complete. The new trails are designed primarily for mountain biking but are open to hikers as well. They offer a different hiking experience than the park’s hiking-only trails, although walkers should remain alert for approaching cyclists.

The Friends group identified the new trails as Landjäger in Paradise and Lead Road and thanked local sponsors, donors, volunteers and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources partners, particularly Park Manager Melissa Burns. Organizers also announced casual Thursday evening group rides.

Not everyone in the community will ride these trails, but they can still get a feel for the experience. A video shared by CORP Trails from opening weekend takes viewers along the wooded routes, offering a chance to travel the trails vicariously from the comfort of home.
