Ponies Hold Off Cambridge for Regional Victory
Monticello-New Glarus used a four-run second inning and a complete-game effort from Heidi Olson to defeat #6 ranked Cambridge 6-3 Tuesday and advance in WIAA regional softball play.
The Monticello-New Glarus Ponies took an early lead and never surrendered it Tuesday, defeating Cambridge 6-3 in a WIAA Division 2 regional softball matchup.
After Cambridge scored single runs in the first and second innings, the Monticello-New Glarus girls answered in a big way with four runs in the bottom of the second to take control of the game. The victory improved Monticello-New Glarus' postseason hopes and sent the Ponies on to the next round.
Molly Olson led the offense for Monticello-New Glarus, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Brooke Ryan added a hit and RBI, while Natalie Cupps, Rayna Vogel, Heidi Olson and Ana Olson each collected two hits or reached base multiple times as the Ponies piled up nine hits.
