Ponies End Season in Extra-Inning Battle Against No. 2 Lodi
The Ponies pushed second-seeded Lodi to eight innings in a WIAA Division 3 regional final before falling 3-2, ending a season that featured another postseason run for the co-op program.
LODI, Wis. — The Monticello-New Glarus Ponies were one out away from taking one of the biggest upsets of the WIAA Division 3 softball playoffs Thursday night before No. 2-seeded Lodi escaped with a 3-2 walk-off victory in eight innings.
The loss ended the Ponies' season, but not before they pushed a favored Lodi team to the brink in a tightly contested regional championship game.
Monticello-New Glarus not only battled the Blue Devils inning for inning, but finished with an 8-7 advantage in hits.
The game unfolded as a pitchers' duel from the start. Hannah Olson kept Lodi off the scoreboard through the first five innings, while Lodi pitcher Bailey Stark matched her nearly pitch for pitch.
