Raiders Strengthen Postseason Position with Win Over Delavan-Darien

DELAVAN, Wis. — The Sugar River Raiders earned a potentially significant postseason victory Thursday, defeating Delavan-Darien 2-0 in a non-conference girls soccer match between two teams expected to be factors in the WIAA tournament.

The Raiders improved their résumé against a quality opponent and may have gained an advantage when sectional seeding discussions begin. Delavan-Darien entered the match with a 10-6 record and ranked third in the latest power rankings according to Bound.com.  They are also the Rock County conference champions this year. Meanwhile, Sugar River came in at 13-4-1 and is second in the Bound.com power rankings. Both teams are expected to be among the stronger programs in their sectional.

Ellie Brenkman gave Sugar River the lead at the 22:20 mark of the first half, finishing a scoring opportunity created by Kate Parman to put the Raiders ahead 1-0.
