Rain Moves Out in Time for Fourth of July Fireworks
A wet holiday stretch brought modest rain to New Glarus and much higher totals elsewhere in the region before the weather cleared Saturday, leaving the rest of the weekend mostly dry with warmer days and more storm chances later this week.
Rain that began Wednesday, July 1, and continued into Saturday, July 4, brought 0.85 inches of rain to New Glarus, according to rainfall totals from Precip.com.
While the rain made for a damp start to the holiday weekend, it moved out in time for Fourth of July fireworks Saturday night. The timing gave area residents and visitors a dry window for evening celebrations after several days of unsettled weather.
New Glarus was near the middle of the pack among area rainfall reports. Darlington recorded the highest total shown on the chart at 1.67 inches, while Blanchardville and Monticello each reported 1.33 inches. Platteville also topped an inch, finishing at 1.20 inches.
Other nearby communities received lighter totals. Belleville came in slightly ahead of New Glarus at 0.87 inches, while Rockford matched New Glarus at 0.85 inches. Monroe reported 0.72 inches, Verona 0.74 inches and Janesville had the lowest total listed at 0.27 inches.
