Rainy Midweek Brings More Than 3 Inches to New Glarus
Two rounds of storms delivered more than 3 inches of rain to New Glarus during the past week, helping push June rainfall above 5 inches while leaving the community with a stretch of cooler, drier weather before more rain returns next week.
Two rounds of thunderstorms that swept across southern Wisconsin on Wednesday and Thursday left New Glarus with more than 3 inches of rain over the past seven days, according to precipitation data compiled Saturday evening.
New Glarus recorded 3.03 inches of rain during the past week and 5.03 inches for the month of June as of 7 p.m. Saturday. The village's weekly total was among the higher amounts reported across the region, though communities farther south and west received even heavier rainfall. Rockford led the reporting area with 4.62 inches during the seven-day period, while Platteville recorded 3.88 inches and Darlington received 3.61 inches.
The storms brought more than just rainfall. Wednesday's severe weather produced damaging winds across parts of Green County, with downed trees, scattered power outages and localized damage reported in and around New Glarus. By Thursday morning, the area had picked up more than an inch of rain from the midweek system alone, adding to an already wet start to June.
