Relays Fall Short at State; Weeden, Sysko Still to Compete
The New Glarus girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams saw their seasons end Friday in La Crosse, while weather delays postponed the state-meet debuts of Brent Weeden and Tucker Sysko until Saturday.
LA CROSSE, Wis. — New Glarus opened its return to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Track and Field Championships on Friday with both girls sprint relays competing in the Division 2 preliminaries before weather issues delayed the rest of the meet.
The Glarner Knights’ girls 4x100 relay team of Gracie Atkinson, Kalia Malaise, Marie Besley and Vivian Lancaster finished in 50.99 seconds. New Glarus placed ninth in its heat and 16th overall, missing a spot in Saturday’s final.
New Glarus also competed in the girls 4x200 relay, with Malaise, Besley, Atkinson and Lancaster finishing in 1:47.22. The Glarner Knights were ninth in their heat and 17th overall.
