Sugar River had already established itself as one of the Capitol Conference’s unbeaten teams. Thursday night, the Raiders made a much louder statement.
The Belleville-New Glarus cooperative handed previously unbeaten Lake Mills its first loss, shutting out the L-Cats 3-0 in New Glarus in a matchup of two teams that entered the night unbeaten in conference play.
Drew Brueggemann put Sugar River in front in the first half, scoring at the 26:36 mark. The Raiders carried that 1-0 advantage into halftime, then wasted little time adding some breathing room after the break.
Kaleb Weber scored at 45:58 to make it 2-0, then struck again at 62:03 off an assist from Owen Griffin. Weber’s two second-half goals gave Sugar River control of a game that had matched two of the conference’s unbeaten sides.
