Sugar River Rolls Past Monroe in Regional Semifinal Rout
Four goals from Nikole Schultz and a dominant defensive effort powered Sugar River to an 8-0 victory over Monroe in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal Thursday night in New Glarus, sending the Raiders into Saturday's regional final.
The Sugar River Raiders left little doubt Thursday night.
Behind a four-goal performance from senior forward Nikole Schultz and a balanced offensive attack, second-seeded Sugar River defeated No. 15 Monroe 8-0 in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal at the Glarner Community Complex in New Glarus, advancing to Saturday night's regional final.
The Raiders controlled play from the opening whistle on a warm evening and quickly turned their pressure into goals.
Schultz opened the scoring at the 9:07 mark of the first half off an assist from senior Ella Woodsmansee. Just over four minutes later, the same combination connected again as Schultz found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.
