This list is not simply a ranking of the oldest buildings or the most architecturally pure examples. It considers age, public meaning, Swiss heritage, civic importance, community memory, preservation value and the role each building has played in the New Glarus story.
Swiss United Church of Christ
The former Swiss Reformed Church, now Swiss United Church of Christ, is central to the New Glarus story. The Swiss Reformed congregation was one of the most important institutions in the early settlement, serving not only as a religious home but also as a social and cultural anchor. The current church building, completed in the early 20th century, became one of the village’s dominant landmarks and remains closely tied to the faith and community life of New Glarus.
