Town of New Glarus to Weigh ATV and UTV Road Access
The Town Board will consider setting a special electors’ meeting as residents continue debating whether rural town roads should be opened to ATVs and UTVs.
The Town of New Glarus Board will revisit a long-debated issue this week when it considers whether to set a date for a special meeting of the electors to discuss opening rural town roads to all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility-terrain vehicles (UTVs). The matter is on the agenda for Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the New Glarus High School auditorium.
The question is tied to a Green County ordinance adopted in 2021 that sets rules for ATV and UTV use on county trunk highways. The Green County Sheriff has encouraged townships to adopt the county’s ordinance for consistency, since the Sheriff’s Department is responsible for enforcement across the county. The Town of New Glarus has not committed to adopting any ordinance that would open roads, and Wednesday’s meeting is expected to clarify timelines and next steps.
