New Glarus High School Basketball May See a Shot Clock Soon
Wisconsin schools may use a 35-second shot clock in some nonconference varsity basketball games next season, offering a possible preview of a bigger statewide change.
Wisconsin schools, including New Glarus High School, will have the option to use a 35-second shot clock in certain varsity basketball games beginning with the 2026-27 season following action taken by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Board of Control.
The change does not require schools to use a shot clock, nor will it apply to conference games. Instead, the WIAA approved a rule allowing the shot clock to be used in nonconference varsity boys and girls basketball games when both participating schools agree.
The move represents Wisconsin's first step toward broader shot clock adoption and could provide a preview of a more significant change on the horizon. The WIAA Board also discussed full statewide implementation beginning in the 2028-29 season, which would require approval from member schools at the organization's Annual Meeting next spring.
