New Glarus woke up to dangerous cold Sunday as arctic air gripped southern Wisconsin, driving wind chills near 25 below zero and prompting warnings of frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.

Arctic Cold Grips New Glarus, Wind Chills Near 25 Below

New Glarus woke up Sunday morning under dangerously cold conditions as an arctic air mass settled over southern Wisconsin, pushing wind chills to life-threatening levels across Green County and the region.

As of early Sunday, temperatures hovered near minus 6 degrees, with wind chills approaching 25 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Green County and surrounding areas, warning that exposed skin could develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
