TOWN OF MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. — The Town of Mount Pleasant voted Monday night to end its contract with New Glarus Area EMS at midnight Dec. 31, making it the final municipality to leave the 51-year-old nonprofit’s municipal 911 service network.

Beginning Jan. 1, the portion of Mount Pleasant now served by New Glarus Area EMS will be divided between Albany EMS and Green County EMS. The board used section lines to divide the remaining territory, assigning Sections 3, 4, 9 and 10 to Albany EMS and Sections 5, 6, 7 and 8 to Green County EMS.

The decision followed a lengthy discussion with representatives of the two incoming services, who reviewed maps with board members and discussed how to create clean dispatch boundaries. Board members repeatedly emphasized response times and making sure no part of the township would be left without ambulance coverage.

The board had delayed its decision in September while other municipalities made their own choices. By Monday, however, Mount Pleasant stood alone. Primrose voted Oct. 5 to leave New Glarus Area EMS for Sugar River EMS, following earlier decisions by York and Perry to end their relationships with the New Glarus service after 2026.
