Dain Walter’s Draft Weekend Puts New Glarus on Watch
New Glarus native Dain Walter enters draft week as a decorated UW-La Crosse left tackle with real NFL interest, even if the public signs point more toward a quick undrafted free agent deal than a late-round selection.
A player from New Glarus will enter the 2026 NFL Draft this week with a realistic shot to keep playing football. Former New Glarus standout and UW-La Crosse left tackle Dain Walter has built enough of a résumé to draw NFL attention, even if the most likely outcome appears to be an undrafted free agent signing rather than hearing his name called during the draft. But there's a chance it could still happen.
That alone makes Walter’s path notable for a hometown audience, particularly because no New Glarus player has ever reached this stage and competed for a spot on an NFL roster. Walter started all 11 games at left tackle in 2025, did not allow a quarterback sack and earned first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), while also collecting additional All-America recognition from D3football.com, the Associated Press and Walter Camp.
