The New Glarus Police Department responded to 465 calls for service in September, including a domestic disturbance that resulted in an arrest, a hit-and-run investigation and several citations, according to a monthly report submitted Oct. 2 by Police Chief Jeff Sturdevant.
The total was up slightly from 458 calls in September 2025, an increase of about 1.5%. Calls for service reached 3,601 through the first nine months of 2026.
Police reported 33 assists to other agencies or departments, 80 traffic and municipal citations, 101 traffic warnings, 67 parking citations and three traffic accidents. One person was incarcerated or jailed during September, compared with four during the same month last year.
Among the most serious incidents was a Sept. 24 domestic disturbance in the 300 block of 7th Avenue. After a lengthy investigation that involved multiple calls to the residence and reports from neighbors, police arrested Paul S. Howell, 66, of New Glarus, on suspicion of domestic disorderly conduct. Howell was transported to the Green County Jail. Police said additional charges were forwarded to the district attorney’s office after Howell posted bond and violated its conditions.
