Google Maps Still Shows an Older New Glarus
After a partial 2025 Street View update, much of New Glarus still appears online as it did more than a decade ago, raising questions about tourism, business visibility and the village’s digital first impression.
Google Maps added new Street View imagery in parts of New Glarus in July 2025, but the update appears to have covered only a small portion of the village and township.
Google Maps is the dominant mapping platform in the United States, accounting for roughly two-thirds of navigation app usage, with Apple Maps controlling about one-quarter of the market and all other mapping services sharing the remainder.
It is one of the most-used navigation and discovery tools in the country, helping millions of people each month find businesses, plan trips, check routes, preview neighborhoods and make decisions before they ever arrive. For communities like New Glarus, accurate Street View imagery is more than a convenience. It can influence tourism, local commerce, real estate interest, emergency response, deliveries and the overall first impression people have of the village.
For much of New Glarus, the most recent Street View imagery still dates back to 2011 or 2013, leaving one of Wisconsin’s best-known tourism communities represented online by scenes that predate many local businesses, public improvements and neighborhood changes.
