This historic photo of downtown New Glarus captures more than a crew of workers hanging a sign. It shows a familiar local storefront in the middle of becoming something new.

The photo shows Anderson’s Ben Franklin during a remodeling project, with ladders leaned against the front of the building and workers installing the store’s new sign. In the window, a handwritten notice tells the story plainly: “Remodeling – Under new management. Please excuse our mess.”
