Swiss Valley Orchard once gave visitors something that felt perfectly New Glarus: apples, rolling hills, European flavor and a Swiss-style chalet tucked among orchard rows north of the village.

This week’s historic photo shows the orchard’s main building, a chalet-inspired landmark surrounded by young apple trees, landscaping and countryside. For many families, it was not just a place to buy apples. It was a fall outing. And for many who grew up in New Glarus, it was their first job.
