Before Swiss Valley Orchard closed north of New Glarus, its chalet-style building, apple trees, cider, bakery and fall crowds made it one of the area’s most memorable rural destinations.
Swiss Valley Orchard once gave visitors something that felt perfectly New Glarus: apples, rolling hills, European flavor and a Swiss-style chalet tucked among orchard rows north of the village.
This week’s historic photo shows the orchard’s main building, a chalet-inspired landmark surrounded by young apple trees, landscaping and countryside. For many families, it was not just a place to buy apples. It was a fall outing. And for many who grew up in New Glarus, it was their first job.
