McFarland Ends Sugar River's Season in Sectional Final
The Sugar River Raiders' girls soccer postseason run came to an end Saturday night as undefeated McFarland advanced to state, but Sugar River closes the season with 17 wins and a sectional final appearance.
MCFARLAND, Wis. — The Sugar River Raiders saw their season come to an end Saturday night, falling 4-0 to top-seeded McFarland in a WIAA Division 3 sectional final.
McFarland, which improved to 16-0-4, advanced to the state tournament in Milwaukee behind a dominant performance on both ends of the field. The Spartans have not allowed a goal during the postseason and have surrendered just one goal all season.
The Raiders entered the match with momentum after winning eight consecutive games, including seven straight shutouts. Sugar River had not conceded a goal during that stretch and was coming off a 1-0 sectional semifinal victory over Delavan-Darien.
McFarland controlled possession throughout the evening and finished with a 16-0 advantage in shots. Despite the pressure, Sugar River goalkeeper Savannah Minter turned in a strong performance, recording 12 saves.
